TEACHING ARTISTS

Elizabeth, a poet, novelist, and native New Yorker, has worked with students of all ages for more than ten years – as a tutor, for city summer camps, an after-school program teacher and as a high school teacher for the NYC DOE. Her goal has always been to help as many young people as possible learn that everyone has a story and the voice with which to tell it. After graduating from NYU, with a BA in Comparative Literature, a focus in Women’s Studies and literature in Spanish, and a minor in Creative Writing, she worked as a teacher and for various non-profit organizations. A few years ago, she decided it was to become a real writer. She gave up her full-time job, began teaching poetry workshops and moved to London to pursue her MA in novel writing at City University London. She is currently working on her second novel and the first issue of Sixpenny, the literary magazine of pocket-sized illustrated stories, which she co-founded in 2014. She is thrilled to be a Teaching Artist for Community Word Project – her dream job for the last six years!
