Bright Spot - NDSS

Following an artist visit from rapper and poet Osyris Antham, CWP students in grades 8-11 at New Directions Secondary School had the opportunity to take the songs that they had written and recited in class to a studio. Students were able to record their original songs over selected hip-hop beats.

Students were both nervous and excited to finally lay down a few tracks in the studio. Entering the studio, it was important for the students to remain composed and ready themselves to recite their writing in a limited amount of time. This lesson connected literacy through music writing and recording, emotional intelligence, community via support, and creative thinking. The students were able to take away tracks that they can add to their portfolios or share with friends and classmates.
