Bright Spot- MS 353

AUTUMN TILSON

AUTUMN TILSON, STAFF

Programs at MS 353 are made possible in part by The New York Community Trust. The 6th grade students in Ms. Skidd’s classroom have a word wall. The teaching artists began a CWP word wall right next to it. The words added to the wall come from poems read, discussions, and games played in the residency classes.

The teaching artists love that students are involved in either suggesting words for the wall or hanging them up, and that the students have incorporated CWP's presence so organically, since the original word wall was already a part of Ms. Skidd’s classroom. Throughout the week, students can glance at the word wall and remember a part of the lesson from the previous week while expanding their vocabularies and enhancing the impact of CWP's lessons at the same time.
